Kaspersky says Russia needs own OS for smartphones

ST. PETERBURG, Jun 16 (PRIME) -- Russia needs its own fully-featured operating system (OS) for smartphones, a mobile platform, because cyber perpetrators mostly target mobile devices, Anton Ivanov, head for research and development at antivirus software maker Kaspersky, said on Friday at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“We all understand clearly that our whole life now, business correspondence, personal one, it is all in a mobile device and it is the core vector of attacks of penetration from the part of scammers now,” Ivanov said.

“I think that…everyone has realized that every state should have its own trusted platform with a full-fledged root of trust, I mean from hardware to certainly an operating system,” he added.

The country will not need the iPhone in several years if it has the necessary electronic component base for the development of a fully-featured local ecosystem for mobile devices, the executive said.

Ivanov said the country has all the capacities and the companies that can provide such an ecosystem in this industry both for the people and business.
